Why Ron Paul Should Not Be President

As I was watching the GOP Debate on Wednesday evening I was not surprised that several of the candidates made comments I could not agree with. However, I found the following comment by Ron Paul at the GOP Debate insulting to our troops and it just shows why he should never be President.

"But I'll tell you how we should do it. We're spending -- believe it or not, this blew my mind when I read this -- $20 billion a year for air conditioning in Afghanistan and Iraq in the tents over there and all the air conditioning. Cut that $20 billion out, bring in -- take $10 off the debt, and put $10 into FEMA or whoever else needs it, child health care or whatever. But I'll tell you what, if we did that and took the air conditioning out of the Green Zone, our troops would come home, and that would make me happy".
If you really listen to the inference here it makes it sound as though he thinks our troops are just setting around soaking up the AC doing nothing of value.  So he thinks if you turn off the aircondiioning they would all come home tomorrow.

You know Representative Paul has such a good grasp of the military and how it works as shown by his nonsensical statement, not. Does he really think if you turned off the a/c they could all just say, " OK, no more a/c. I am leaving?" Like they are just setting around soaking up the a/c and doing nothing according to Mr. Paul.
What an insult to our troops and a good reason why he should never be Commander-In-Chief.

We Should Celebrate Election Day

As I watch the attack adds from various candidates and read of others it is easy to say, "I will be glad when this election is over." I have had many people tell me they hate the elections and will be glad when it is over. No wonder there is so much apathy on the part of the electorate in America.

Those running for office and those voting have all become callous to the real significance of our right to vote. Very few people are excited about election day and casting their ballot. The problem is we should be.

When our Founding Fathers put our Constitution in place to guide our future they understood our right to vote as a God given one. A right to be cherished and celebrated, not dreaded or wasted. I believe they would have told you to not vote was unpatriotic and lazy.

They believed July 4th should be celebrated in honor of the Declaration. I believe they also expected us to cherish our right to vote for our representatives in government and to use that right wisely.

Election day should be a day of celebration of not only our right to vote but of those who have defended that right with their blood and service. Americans have long been willing to defend our Constitution and our right to vote provided in it.

We need to rise above the partisan politics and negative ads and look at what is really going on here. It is about exercising a right that few people in this world ever will.  The right to stand as "we the people" and elect our government without threat of reprisal. It is about having a voice in the way we are governed.

Lets do it right this November 2nd. Go and cast your ballot excitedly and cherish the moment. Afterwards, celebrate that God given right for the rest of the day. As a veteran I intend to celebrate the fact that I am a Defender of  Liberty as well.

Setting A Standard to Gauge Office Seekers

During this election cycle you hear the slogan "Throw the Bums Out" repeated by many including the Tea Party Movement.  This has made me contemplate what standard are these so-called "bums" being measure by. How do we tell the "bums" from the good guys when choosing our elected officials in America?

In trying to answer this question I came across the following poem in the book In God We Still Trust by Dr. Richard G. Lee. The poem, titled God, Give us Men, was penned by Josiah Gilbert Holland in the 1800's.
I think it clearly describes the standards by which we should gauge office seekers by.

God, Give Us Men

God, give us men! A time like this demands
          Strong minds, great hearts, true faith and ready hands;
          Men whom the lust of office does not kill;
Men whom the spoils of office can not buy;
          Men who possess opinions and a will;
Men who have honor; men who will not lie;
Men who can stand before a demagogue
And damn his treacherous flatteries without winking!
Tall men, sun-crowned, who live above the fog
          In public duty, and in private thinking;
For while the rabble, with their thumb-worn creeds,
Their large professions and their little deeds,
Mingle in selfish strife, lo! Freedom
weeps,
Wrong rules the land and waiting
Justice sleeps.

When I read this it made me see clearly what the standard is for those who would seek to serve us in government should be measured. People who have rolled up their sleeves to work with their ready hands to better their community or their church.  People who have a proven track record of being of strong mind and great heart for being involved and taking a stand for truth no matter what the cost.

Men who will resist the bribes and favors of the lobbyist and special interest groups because their opinions and wills don't allow them to be bought or swayed from their principles and beliefs. People who have exhibited honor and integrity in their everyday lives.

They are those that resist the flattery and flowery rhetoric of the power drunk demagogue who would tickle their ears and enslave them. People who live above the fog of the Statehouse or the Beltway because they do
stand on principle and faith and whose crown will come in Heaven not on this Earth.

Since we have lost site of these standards to gauge them by, our nation is in turmoil and and the people are disillusioned with those they have sent to Washington to "represent" them.  We the people have determined we have indeed sent bums to oversee the process of self-governance. They are untrustworthy, favor seeking, and self-serving.  They are not there to do the peoples business but rather to perpetuate their own careers at the expense of the people.

I am all for throwing the bums out. But before we do. Lets make sure we are measuring the hopeful replacements by a clear and high set of standards. Otherwise, what keeps us from just sending new bums to replace them?

In the process we need to look at those same standards and apply them to our lives.  If you are going to demand it of those that represent you in government, you must exhibit those same standards you wish them
to be measured by. After-all, our goal should be to elect people that emulate us, right.

The Forgotten!

During a cold spell in the early part of 1978, I slipped on the ice going down a set of concrete steps. As  result I smacked the back of my head and had to be hospitalized for several days.  One day the door to my hospital room opened and an elderly lady entered the room. I asked her if I could help her as she seemed confused.  She asked, "is this Keith Miller's room?"  When I replied "yes that's me", she looked very disappointed and extremely sad.  I asked her if there was something I could help her with.

She then told me that her son, Keith, had been listed as Missing in Action since WWII. She told me that when she saw the name in the paper under Hospital news, she just could not help but hope it was him after all those years. She immediately headed to the hospital with the hope her son had at last been found.

I spoke with her for a few more minutes and then she left with tears in her eyes.  With all my heart I wished it would have been him and not me. Her sadness overwhelmed me and I began to weep.

I will never forget the sadness in that mothers eyes over the lack of closure even after all those years.  It is bad enough when a family loses a loved one in the service of their country and the remains are sent home to rest.  However, I believe it is even harder on the families who are told their loved one is missing in action and there is no closure. No grave to visit on Memorial Day or any other day. No certainty to their final fate.

Having not suffered this kind of loss we can only imagine the pain and longing these families must endure.  These families seem to get lost in the grand scheme of things. It is because of this that we must never forget those servicemen who are missing in action and their families when we pay tribute on Memorial Day or any other time we honor our brave veterans.

Letter to Your State Rep or Senator

Following is a letter for you to forward to your State Rep or State senator immediately.  Lets make them take action now.

Sentinels of the Constitution

After the vote by the U.S. House of Representatives late on Sunday March 21st it is apparent this current federal government is out of control. People are angry and confused and looking for leadership and real solutions. This is not a new feeling but rather a heightened awareness of what the Declaration of Independence refers to as “along train of abuses”. Those on the national political and talk stage postulate about the problem but few seem to put forth a legitimate Constitutional solution.

I believe in order to solve any problem you must look at the history of the situation to fully grasp it and have any hope of success in correcting it. When it comes to the United States and the current problems of governance it would therefore make sense to look to the history and thought behind the Constitution of our Republic in seeking answers.  What did the signers and supporters of the Constitution have in mind when they drafted and ratified it?

It is only through this approach that we can hope to determine their original intent and how we have arrived at our current calamity. Once we have gained that knowledge we can begin to find constitutionally based solutions to the long train of abuses of the federal government against the rights of the people and the States.

Who in the words of the proponents of the Constitution were to be the “sentinels” that would watch over the rights of the people and of these United States? Who would sound the alarm and devise a plan of resistance to encroachments on the rights of the people and the States by the federal government? What safeguard did they envision that would protect these rights?

A good source to go to in order to find the answers to these questions is the Federalist Papers. In re-reviewing them I found a consistent theme as to who they believed would be these sentinels.  It was their thought that the State governments would act as those sentinels. The governments of the several United States after all are the foundation of the Union governed by the Constitution. Therefore, the founders believed they would stand guard on behalf of the people they represent.

There are numerous statements contained in the Federalist Papers which would lead us to this understanding of the supporters of the Constitutions thoughts. I believe they are the most authoritative explanations of the original intent of the Constitution.

Let’s begin our review with a statement contained in Federalist 84 written by Alexander Hamilton followed by quotes from other Papers:

Federalist 84 (Hamilton);

“The executive and legislative bodies of each state will be so many sentinels over the
persons employed in every department of the national administration; and as it will be
in their power to adopt and pursue a regular and effectual system of intelligence, they
can never be at a loss to know the behavior of those who represent their constituents in
the national councils, and can readily communicate the same knowledge to the
     people.”

Hamilton very clearly says the State governments are to be the sentinels watching over the national government and alerting the people to any actions contrary to the Constitution.

Federalist 44 (Madison):

“The truth is, that this ultimate redress may be more confided in against
Unconstitutional acts of the federal than of the State Legislatures, for this plain reason,
that as every such act of the former, will be an invasion of the rights of the latter,
these will be ever ready to mark the innovation, to sound the alarm to the people, and
to extend their local influence in effecting a change of federal representatives.”

Madison says the State Legislatures of the several States who comprise the Union will be the ones to note the encroachment, sound the alarm to the people, and use their local influence in causing the people to vote out the national representatives who committed the unconstitutional acts.

Federalist 45 (Madison):

“The State governments may be regarded as constituent and essential parts of the
Federal Government; whilst the latter is nowise essential to the organization of the
      former.”

Madison addresses the facts the State Governments are essential to the organization and operation of the federal Government, not the other way around. After all the States formed the Union which created the federal Government.

Federalist 45 continued:

“The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the Federal Government, are
few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State Governments are numerous
      and indefinite.”

The federal governments’ role was in Madison’s mind clearly defined and limited by the proposed Constitution.  However, those powers reserved to the several States would “extend to all the objects, which in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people; and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State.”

Federalist 46 (Madison):

“…should an unwarrantable measure of the Federal Government be unpopular in
particular States, which would seldom fail to be the case, or even a warrantable
measure be so, which may sometimes be the case, the means of opposition to it
      are powerful and at hand.
…But ambitious encroachments of the Federal Government, on the authority of the
State governments, would not excite the opposition of a single State or a few States
only. They would be signals of general alarm.  Every Government would espouse
the common cause. A correspondence would be opened. Plans of resistance would be
concerted. One spirit would animate and conduct the whole.
…it will not possess the confidence of the people, and its schemes of usurpation will
Be easily defeated by the State Governments, who will be supported by the people.”

It is very clear that Madison is saying the governments of the several States would be
the sentinels of our liberty. It would be the United States’ governments who would sound
the general alarm by coming together in common cause, corresponding with each other,
and devising a concerted plan of resistance. One spirit fueled by the common call to rally
around the Constitution and uphold State sovereignty and the rights of the people would
animate these efforts. As a defense against encroachments the people were to retain close
bonds of trust with their State Governments.

Today, the people for the most part have lost sight of this important vanguard of
our liberties and too often look to the federal government for the answers to their
problems. This has set the stage for the Federal Government to encroach against
States Sovereignty and weaken the effect of their ability to sound the general alarm.

Federalist 60 (Hamilton):

“…it could never be made without causing an immediate revolt of the great body
Of the people, headed and directed by the state governments.”

Federalist 85 (Hamilton):

“We may safely rely on the disposition of the state legislatures to erect barriers
against the encroachments of the national authority.”

In reviewing these statements we get a very clear picture of who the minds of the
Founders were to be the Sentinels of the Constitution. It was to be the state governments
who would sound the alarm and direct the fight to restore and defend the Constitution
against any encroachments by the federal government.

State governments must not lose sight of the original intent of the founders and to react to
usurpations by this federal government. It is time for you to take a stand on behalf of the
people, sound the alarm and lead the fight to uphold the rights of the people and the
states.

I believe the actions of this Congress are in violation of Article I, Section 7 paragraph 1.
The President’s promise of an Executive Order to stop public funding of abortions, is
in my opinion, a clear violation of Article I, Section 9’s provision against ex post facto
Laws being passed.  The bill in its entirety violates the Article 4 Section 4 guarantee of a
Republican Form of government to every State.

When you were elected to State office you took on the sacred responsibility of preserving
State Sovereignty, the rights of the people, and the Constitution.  It is time to uphold this
trust and the duties which accompany it. It is time to act to preserve state sovereignty or
the Constitution and our nation will be lost.

We cannot afford for you to blink or be hesitant in your response to this Unconstitutional
action. You must get both the Missouri House and senate to join forces in nullifying this
act immediately on clearly Constitutional grounds.  Do not let us down!

Keith D. Miller, host of AmericaFirst on WGGRN.com names “The Thirty Tyrants of Washington, DC”

Keith D. Miller, host of AmericaFirst on WGGRN.com names “The Thirty Tyrants of Washington, DC

Talk Show host contends that the Administration and Members of Congress have placed themselves in a “state of war” with the people of these United States.

Republic, Missouri – December 17, 2009

Keith D. Miller the host of WGGRN’s conservative talk show, "America First" (WGGRN.COM), during his December 14, 2009show, contended that members of the Obama Administration and Congress have placed themselves in a “state of war” with the people of this nation. In justifying his comments he used excerpts from John Locke’s Second Treatise of Government.

"In Washington, DC, there exists a movement by members of Congress and the Administration to control and subvert the rights of the people that they were entrusted with when they were elected,” said Miller, "To put this whole situation into an even stronger statement of fact,” Miller continued, “these are people who have placed themselves and the Government at war with the people of these United states. They are the rebelannts. ”

Miller’s comments are part of his article that was posted on WGGRN’s companion site, HTTP://GRIZZLYGROUNDSWELL.COM at 7:00 am Sunday morning. The article relies heavily on the writings of Locke and his quotes of Hooker. In writing the article, Miller chose to name President Obama, Senator Harry Reid, and twenty eight sponsors or co-sponsors of the U.S House’s so-called Health Care Reform Bill. In making the decision of who to name, Miller stated, “As you and I both know this is not an all inclusive list nor is it intended to be. It is however, a list that is intended to call out at least these thirty people who have determined they will act outside the authority granted to them by the Constitution.”

Keith D. Miller, a native of Dexter, Kansas, served as Co-Chair of the Support Republic Committee formed to stand against the ACLU's attack on the city seal, as Director of Development for the National Legal Foundation, two terms as the Mayor of Republic, Missouri, as Missouri Team Leader for Former Speaker Newt Gingrich's American Solutions, and as a Regional Coordinator for Missouri Roundtable for Life.
